The HSE strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training during any three-year First Aid at Work certification period. This will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and keep up-to-date with any changes to first-aid procedures. Source: (SECTION 3 The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981).
They recognise that First Aid at Work training courses give a toolkit of practical skills and knowledge required by first aiders. This gives first aiders the ability to be able to deal with first aid emergencies. it also helps organisations contribute to the required standards set by the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations.
Refresher First Aid at Work Course
We offer this half day, First Aid at Work refresher course to both businesses and individuals. It’s for anyone aged 16+ who wants to refresh, practice and boost their confidence in their First Aid at Work skills. It’s also useful for those first aiders whom have been involved in recent medical emergencies. On our group courses, delegates attend from both low and high risk work environments. First Aid Skills
On completion of this First Aid at Work Refresher course, delegates will remind themselves and increase their confidence in first aid responses to the below emergency situations.
Where the Casualty is / has:
- Unresponsive and breathing / unresponsive and not breathing
- Suffering from shock
- Feeling faint
- A head injury
- Heat exhaustion
- An injury to a bone, muscle or joint
- Spinal injuries.
We’ll also cover the management of casualties who may be having a heart, angina or asthma attack a stroke, seizure, severe allergic reaction or a diabetic incident.
First Aid At Work Refresher Course Timetable & Preparation
You will receive a personal full training pack which includes an up to date first aid text book to keep. You will also be given a resuscitation face shield, PPE, stationery and first aid training equipment for use during the course.
This First Aid at Work refresher course is usually available once a month, half a day from 0900-1700. We operate from venues around North Wales and the North West. If you wish us to conduct the course on your own premises, flexibility can be offered around the clock on a 24/7 basis.
Not all of the venues we use provide food, so we recommend you bring your own lunch unless advised otherwise. We will send joining information when you book the course, and information on local amenities.
All we ask is that you arrive ready to learn. Ideally also present to us before the course your companies first aid assessment if applicable.
This First Aid at Work refresher course is delivered in a classroom setting. It’s a hands on / practical course so you must be physically able to participate. You will refresh your skills and increase your confidence over the half day to be able to deal with a wide range of situations. A good level of English is required. If your delegates all have Welsh as their 1st language we can also offer the course in Welsh.
To ensure you get the most effective learning experience, learners must be physically able to participate and we limit group size to 12 people.
Your Due Diligence
For your piece of mind, this course meets the requirements specified by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. All our trainers hold current and relevant training qualifications. Our courses meet the HSE criteria of what is expected of a First Aid Training company.
The trainers at the Hive Collaborative are all clinically qualified and experienced in urgent medical care; e.g. medical doctors, paramedics and A&E nurses. This is not a HSE stipulation for First Aiders, but we believe you will get benefit their skills and experience. First Aid At Work Refresh Course Assessment
Delegates must attend the full day to be eligible for assessment, which is done by continuous observation and questioning during the course, e.g. activities, quizzes and roleplay. On successful completion delegates will receive a First Aid at Work Refresher certificate.
