COSHH Training North Wales

COSHH Training North Wales. The Hive Collaborative are based in Mold, Flintshire. We offer this course primarily to self employed trades people and organisations in North Wales and the North West, Merseyside and the Wirral; Chester, Ellesmere Port, Birkenhead, Wallasey, Wrexham, Abergele, Deeside, Broughton, etc. COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. COSHH is the Health & Safety Law that requires organisations to control substances that are hazardous to health. This control is essential to protect anyone involved in the business operation, e.g. employees, contractors, members of the public. The governing law is The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (legislation.gov.uk)

Organisations can prevent or reduce exposure to hazardous substances by:

  • Finding out what the health hazards are of each product.
  • Deciding how to prevent harm to health (by conducting a COSHH risk assessment).
  • Providing control measures to reduce harm to health.
  • Making sure control measures are used.
  • Keeping all control measures in good working order.
  • By providing information, instruction and training for employees and others
  • Providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases.
  • Planning for emergencies (emergency preparedness).

COSHH Legal Requirements

1. An employer shall not carry out work which is liable to expose any employees to any substance hazardous to health unless he has —a. made a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risk created by that work to the health of those employees and of the steps that need to be taken to meet the requirements of these Regulations. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 Regulation 6

COSHH Awareness Training for Organisations

All organisations, SME’s to PLC’s use substances that could cause harm to employees, contractors and members of the general public. These substances could range from simple antibacterial hand wash to acids, caustic substances and pesticides. COSHH assessments are needed for all, however innocent they may appear if they have a hazard label on their packaging.

COSHH Awareness Training for the Self Employed

If you are self-employed, and have employees every part of COSHH regulations still apply. If you are self employed but have no employees, (but you take hazardous substances to other peoples premises), all parts of COSHH regulations apply except those about health surveillance and monitoring. The latter may apply to a mobile hairdresser, cleaners, electricians and plumbers for example.

Hazardous Substances

Be aware, that substances in your organisation may come in different forms; chemicals, fumes, mists, vapours, gases, nanotechnology, biological agents (germs).  If the products packaging has any of the hazard symbols then it is classed as a hazardous substance.

Asbestos, radioactive materials and lead are not covered under COSHH as they have their own regulations.

Our COSHH awareness training courses are suitable for all employees if they deal with hazardous substances.
