This is the full Paediatric First Aid course. It’s a 2 day blended course which will help you comply the regulatory requirements if your business involves you caring for babies and children in a professional setting. This qualification is the gold standard for all those working with children and babies.

Paediatric First Aid Course – Information

This is the industry standard, Paediatric First Aid Course. It’s a 2 day blended course split into the equivalent to 1 day being completed by the candidate online and 1 day face-to-face in a classroom setting.

This is the Paediatric First Aid course you will need to book if your workplace, environment, event, etc. is involved with the care of children and babies.

If you are booking this course for a large number of delegates, then it may be more cost effective for us to come to your site. We also recommend you share your first aid risk assessment with us if it highlights high risk, e.g. for children or babies with disabilities or medical conditions. This enables us to add a bespoke element to the standard course with other potential emergencies that you are likely to encounter. First Aid Skills

On completion of this Paediatric First Aid course, delegates will be able to provide a confident first aid response in the below emergency situations. They will learn basic life saving skills be able to asses and monitor the casualty and know where to get help from. In addition they will learn and understand workplace health and safety regulations.

Emergency Situations (children & babies only):

  • Unresponsive and breathing.
  • Unresponsive and not breathing / use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Bleeding & choking
  • Burns and scalds
  • Foreign objects in ears, eyes and nose.
  • Heat exhaustion / hypothermia.
  • Fever and sickness.

We also cover what to do if a child or baby is having a medical emergency including:

  • Head injury
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock)
  • Asthma attack.
  • Meningitis
  • Diabetic incident
  • Injury to a muscle, bone or joint, including spinal.
  • Swallowed something harmful.
Paediatric Full First Aid

Paediatric First Aid Course Timetable & Preparation

You will receive a personal training pack which includes an up to date first aid text book to keep. You will also receive a resuscitation face shield, Covid precautionary equipment, stationery and first aid training equipment for use during the course.

This Paediatric First Aid course is usually available once a month, over 2 days, 1 day as online learning and 1 day face-to-face typically 08:30 or 09:00 until 15:30 or 16:00 respectively. We operate from venues around North Wales and the North West. If you wish us to conduct the course on your own premises, flexibility can be offered around the clock on a 24/7 basis, for instance evenings. We could also conduct the course at weekends for you.

Not all of the venues we use provide food, so we recommend you bring your own lunch unless advised otherwise. We will send joining information when you book the course, and information on local amenities.

All we ask is that you arrive ready to learn. Ideally also present to us before the course your companies first aid assessment if applicable.

Course Delivery

This Paediatric First Aid course is delivered both as an online module and in a classroom setting. The face-to-face course day is a hands on / practical course so you must be physically able to participate. A good level of English is required. If your delegates all have Welsh as their first language we can also offer the face-to-face part of the course in Welsh. You will learn the skills and gain the confidence over the 2 days to be able to deal with a wide range of emergency situations.

To ensure you get the most effective learning experience, learners must be physically able to participate and we limit group size to 12 people.

Your Due Diligence

For your piece of mind, this course meets the requirements specified by the Welsh Government/Care Inspectorate Wales and Department of Education/Ofsted England. All our trainers hold current and relevant training qualifications. Our courses meet the HSE criteria of what is expected of a First Aid Training company.

The trainers at the Hive Collaborative are all clinically qualified and experienced in urgent medical care; e.g. medical doctors, paramedics and A&E nurses. This is not a HSE stipulation for First Aid Trainers, but we believe you will benefit greatly from their skills and experience. This is particularly useful for this course as the extra insights they can deliver are invaluable. Paediatric First Aid Course Assessment

Delegates must attend the full day to be eligible for assessment, which is done by continuous observation and questioning during the course, e.g. activities, quizzes and roleplay. On successful completion delegates will receive a Paediatric First Aid course certificate which is valid for 3 years.
